Inspirationally pragmatic would be one way to define James Neil and his partner Giles Morrison’s approach to interior design. They are both incredibly clever with their hands and they find uses for the most unlikely stuff. So a first world war shell case is where they put their outgoing post in the hall and there is a champagne magnum just about to be turned into a light base next to it and the gilded antique frames filled with 19 th century dignitaries from Vanity Fair magazine cuttings, are not antique after all but black stained frames from Ikea skilfully gilded with gilt cream. None of these ideas would break the bank.
