Country house living in Yorkshire, U. K.

For some ten years during the childrens’ schooldays, the Fitzalan-Howards chose to live in Hampshire but some eight years ago they headed back to Yorkshire. Although they often spent the school holidays and Christmas at Carlton, no-one was living here full-time and the house and the estate were suffering. So they exchanged their cosy, thatched farmhouse for the turrets and towers of Carlton and set about adapting the house to the 21st century and making it work for its living.
